Attend the 2022 Architecture and Design College Fair

Join the Center for Architecture for their annual Architecture and Design College Fair for high school students. Learn more about applying to architecture school—representatives from over 30 colleges, universities, and design programs across the country will be in attendance to meet students and answer questions.

Help K-2 Students Improve Their Reading Skills
For students in grades 9–12
Takes place at various public elementary schools in Staten Island
Runs Nov. 2022–May 2023
Registration deadline: October 31, 2022
Are you a high school student with the time, skills, and heart to become a mentor and tutor to Staten Island students in grades K–2?
Urban Hope is seeking high school students who can help young elementary school students build their literacy skills during their lunchtime or free period. Volunteers will be assigned to a Staten Island school, where they will be asked to tutor/mentor a child once a week. Some of the activities tutors/mentors will be asked to do with their assigned students include reviewing phonics charts, completing practice sheets together, and more.
No experience is necessary, and training will be provided.

Create a Historical Theatrical Performance
For students in grades 6–12

The Brooklyn Public Library’s Center for Brooklyn History is collaborating with the educators and performers of the Irondale Ensemble to provide an in-person workshop on November 15 for participating middle and high school students seeking to create an original theatrical performance based on historical research for New York City History Day later this school year.
Through this workshop, participants will learn the skills needed to craft a historical, theatrical performance, including important research tips, artistic interpretation and expression, and most importantly, fun!

Please note that all students who wish to participate in NYC History Day 2023 must have a sponsor teacher—if you are a student who would like to participate in NYC History Day, speak to one of your teachers and ask them to register on your behalf beginning November 14, when pre-registration for NYC History Day 2023 opens for teachers.
Register for Free Online Coding Classes
For students in grades 2–12
Free virtual workshop runs twice a week, one hour per session
October 10–November 14, 2022
Registration is open until the end of the program.
Through the Blissful Coding Club, students in grades 2–12 can learn how to read and write some of the coding scripts that power today’s computer and mobile software, hardware, and cybersecurity networks. The free classes, which will run two times a week for six weeks beginning October 10, will be an hour long and will cover topics like Python, Scratch, app development, and cybersecurity.
To register for the coding courses, complete the Blissful Coding Club’s student sign-up form.
Celebrate All Things “Solar” with Virtual Sun Camp
For students in grades K–4
Virtual gatherings, Wednesdays, 7:00–7:45 p.m.

Learn all about the brightest object in our sky through Science Friday’s free virtual Sun Camp! Designed for students aged 5–9 years old, Sun Camp provides five weeks of fun, hands-on science and engineering activities that children can do from the comfort of their own homes with simple, inexpensive materials (and possibly a little help from an older sibling or adult). And every Wednesday, 7:00 – 7:45 p.m., until November 9, Science Friday will host weekly virtual gatherings via Zoom and YouTube with astrophysicists, engineers, scientists, and other sun experts who can help children learn more about the sun, the solar system, and our relationship to it all!

The organization is looking for a high school student with knowledge of graphics, social media, and music who can work approximately four hours per week.
