Learn About Other Ways to Graduate

If your student is struggling in school, your first step should always be to ask your student's guidance counselor for help. Depending on your student's situation, they may be eligible for special instruction or services. The student or parent can request a formal evaluation at any time. If you are having a problem with the Individualized Education Plan (IEP), ask the guidance counselor for a meeting to review and discuss your IEP.

But if a traditional school setting is not the best option for your student, New York City has schools, programs, and supports that can help them earn the credits they need to graduate from middle school, earn a high school diploma, or earn a technical degree.

Note: Students who turned 21 years old in the 2020-21 school year can stay enrolled or re-enroll in high school for 2021-22 to continue working toward their diploma.
